Emerson 1F86-344 Non-Programmable Thermostat for Single-Stage Systems, White

I bought this thermostat to replace an older version that was almost identical, but without the bottom moveable cover. The buttons on the old one were those soft, spongy feeling buttons and I had to press just right to get them to do anything. It was a nuisance but then the thermostat started malfunctioning and during the heating season, it would not turn off the furnace when it reached the set temperature. One morning I woke up during winter and felt uncomfortably warm. I went to check the thermostat and noticed the temperature in the house was 78, when the thermostat was set to 72. That's when I knew it was time to replace it. This new version has buttons that respond instantly, and it was simple to replace. Very pleased with this purchase.

I purchased this thermostat to replace a White-Rodgers 1F86-244. That thermostat was in my home when I moved in 2 years ago so I don't know how old it was but it was failing. The furnace and air conditioner would endlessly run without stopping at the set temperature. I had an HVAC person come and look at the system and he did not think that there was a problem with the furnace itself so I decided to start with replacing the cheapest possible thing being the thermostat. I did not want a smart thermostat and I did not want a programmable thermostat, I wanted something that was a direct replacement for what was there before figuring it would be easy for me to install myself. I have no experience with any type of electrical work and I was able to do this myself in about 30 minutes with a small flat head screwdriver and a very small Phillips screwdriver. As soon as I hooked everything up and turned the power back on and set the thermostat the air conditioner kicked on ran and then stopped at the desired temperature. Exactly what it's made to do and exactly what my old one stop doing. One thing I would suggest if you're not familiar with changing a thermostat is to take a picture with your cell phone of the wiring on the old one so that you have something to refer to. The instructions that it came with the new unit were not real helpful so I pulled up a YouTube video and familiarized myself with the wiring which couldn't have been easier. I wish was that the hole in the unit where the wire comes through from the wall and the holes for the mounting screws would match the old unit so that I wouldn't have to make new holes in my wall. I also don't care for the door that covers the controls on the bottom, it's annoying opening it every time I need to adjust something, which is a few times a day. The flimsy cover will eventually break off, which would honestly be better as it will be out of the way, but will look stupid. I have two thermostats in my home and I will be replacing the other one with one of these as well now that I see how simple this one was to do.

Simply, very accurate & easy to use. Largely display easy to read. But I still don't know when my wife is hot.

We needed to replace an old White-Rodgers 1F86-244 non-programmable thermostat. I called White-Rodgers a division of Emerson and they said that even though the 1F86-344 is not the most current replacement, if I could find one, it would be a perfect 1:1 replacement for our older unit. I ordered on Saturday morning and the new unit arrived by 4pm the same day. It took my husband and I about 20 minutes to switch them out. It was super easy as the instructions were easy to follow.When we switched the unit on, it started working with no problem and our home was once again cool. The unit regulated perfectly.We highly recommend this unit. Thanks to CS Tech staff at White-Rodgers for their assistance as well.

I bought this to replace mine that had broken. It fit perfectly and was easy to install. Been working fantastic and does exactly as it should.

I had an old RiteTemp analog thermostat that had about a 10 degree swing, and it really irritated me with this colder winter. My wall texture is a Splatter Knockdown, and the old thermostat is just shy of 6"x4", so my mission was to find a replacement with a similar footprint that was non-programable (easy to use).It didn't take long to realize that Amazon does not publish the correct size for an item, often it lists the size of the package, like that's gonna help. I have sent corrections on several thermostats, but noticed that the original dimensions are still the same, which was a waste of time.The Emerson "1F86-344 N" fit the bill coming in at about 6"x4" at the bulges (it's slightly curved). I had 4 wires (W,Y,G,R) for a single stage system. Everything works great, and the temperature swing is just a couple of degrees now.

Our Thermostat with a similar model number (1F86-336) went on the Fritz after a power outage. The registered temperature fluctuated between 20° - 85°. Therefore, the air conditioner wouldn't kick on. Swapped this out (removal of the cover, five wires, and two screws) and back on in reverse, and it started to accurately reflect the correct ambient temperature. New mounting screw holes lined up with the old ones. Very happy with my next day fix from Amazon.*Never work with live power.
