Brosnan, Pierce Brosnan - My 1st 007
I wasn't allowed to watch a lot of action movies growing up, but James Bond was one of the few exceptions that my father would let me get away with. At the height of the new Bond hype, there was a little video game on the Nintendo 64 based on the first film. Of course, that was my first exposure to the James Bond character, and Pierce Brosnan was subsequently my first Bond. Throughout my childhood I have fond memories of watching these films, but none of me actually enjoying them as a child.Re-watching them all of these years later, it makes sense why a kid wouldn't get into these movies. The villains hatch nefarious plots to destroy the world, but none that attack it in a way that makes it easily digestible for a kid. So while I have a fondness for these films and what they meant to me as a child, they do not necessarily stand the test of time. The best way for me to review this is to quickly describe my experiences with each Blu-ray disc. Overall, this is a fantastic Blu-ray release for the Brosnan Bond run and I plan on buying the rest in this set.Goldeneye - This is by far the best film in the Brosnan collection, and it's odd to think that it has perhaps the best/worst villain of them all. Sean Bean plays a double agent, 006 Alec Trevelyan, and of course manages to die very quickly in this movie, as is standard for his characters. There is also Famke Janssen who plays the hench-woman type, and her power is quite strange. With the ability to crush men between her super powerful thighs, she really stands out as a classic Bond character. The rest of the film is filled with suspense, good performances, and the story with the most plot depth. The special features are fantastic, including a few short features that appear to have been on television. The commentary is serviceable on this one, but the film overall speaks for itself as being the reason there were 3 more films.Tomorrow Never Dies - Outside of Goldeneye, I couldn't recall much of what made Pierce Brosnan's run as Bond so great. This was the movie I probably had the least recollection of, and it makes sense considering the villain's plot is so sinister. I think this film has the best villain in Jonathan Pryce's media mogul bad guy. Playing the world using media tricks and veiled violence, he is able to make his 24/7 news network a smashing success. Something about this plot really holds up still to this day... This film features 2 commentaries, and some of the same type of special features that are well worth watching. The World is Not Enough - I specifically recall seeing this one in theaters when it released, and not liking it so much. While it did improve a little better with my age, it still leaves a little to be desired. There is not a particularly strong villain, in the sense of story, as he's basically invincible to all pain. Robert Carlyle does a fantastic job at playing a bad guy, but is overshadowed by the Elektra King side plot with Bond. Denise Richards also sticks out as herself, but I don't find it all that distracting now that she's not nearly as relevant as she used to be. Overall, this film was still worth watching but the special features become tired at this point, with even the commentary doing little to add to the film.Die Another Day - By far the worst film in the series, Die Another Day doesn't do a whole lot to stand out on its own. It is said to have been the Bond anniversary film, I'm not sure which, but it was a fairly big deal for the studio and all involved. With a stellar cast including Halle Berry, the film does little to set itself apart. It reminisces on some of what made the old Bond movies great, the silliness of something like lasers and an ice mansion, and the Bond girl character that Berry plays. But it rarely divulges into any story that feels worthy or individual, and is just very simply a Bond movie. Unfortunately, this is the only film to feature a Pierce Brosnan commentary and it's really lackluster. He does a poor job of starting and it's almost as if Rosamund Pike walks into the commentary to save him halfway through. This collection is a great pickup in the $20-30 range, depending on what you're looking for. This release is loaded with special features and I believe 6 total commentaries, as 2 of the movies only have 1 feature commentary. The special features all start to hammer on similar things at a certain point too, none of which are updated for HD. So while it's a good definitive collection for Brosnan's Bond, it's not a must-have if you own some or all of the films already. I'm not sure if the individual releases are similar to those provided in this release. There are 4 Blu-ray discs and digital copies were included with a case that came in great shape, and has a slipcover.

What's Not To Love About Pierce Brosnan as Bond?
This collection of all the Pierce Brosnan-led Bond films is the best. I watched it with the kids. Brings back good memories. Good video and audio quality. Great movies!
