Brought it for my grandpa as he was part of this war and we all were emotionally attached to this but he demise after having a glimpse of this book, which was really heart wrenching for me. The book is really great and narration is also nice. We can relate to those parts as well which were mentioned by him in his stories. Amazing book. Salute to the soldiers for their extreme valour and courage for our motherland. All the best wishes to the writer and the publisher who made it possible to spread the gigantic history of this war to us.Thankyou

Riveting & Awe-inspiring Stories from 1971 War
The war for liberation of Bangladesh in 1971 is a shining example of the competence and leadership abilities of our armed forces. A war that was fought, not for territorial gains, but to liberate the helpless and persecuted people of East Pakistan from their tormentors. The win was not just a military victory but also a moral one as well. This books tells you some of the unheard incidents and stories from 1971 war. The author himself fought in the war and hence was the witness to it. All stories will capture your attention and will compel you to marvel at the courage and determination of Indian armed forces personnel. The stories are not only from Army but from Navy and Air Force as well. True Stories .... Full of heart and character!! A must read!!
This book is a must read for those Indian Army and War aficionados who want to know more about the war, about the brave soldiers who fought it; how they braved all the odds and at the risk of their lives made victory possible. This book contains some little known stories about some of the campaigns of the war, both on the Eastern and the Western front. Apart from being thoroughly entertaining, it also shed light on some of the little known aspects of the War. For example, everyone knows about the Battle of Longewala via the movie 'Border'. But that was a reel exaggeration. The story in the book is real. It tells us how that one fateful decision by Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri changed the fate of the war and turned the tables on the enemy. There is also the story of the 'The Gates of Rattocke', where the Indian army outsmarted the enemy, forced them to surrender and returned intact the Gates of the Gurudwara of Rattocke, a small town in Punjab in the Indo-Pak border, thereby restoring the dignity of the town and it's people. Then there is the story of the Battle of Sylhet, where an undersized Indian infantry division tricked the larger size Pakistani garrison into surrender. This book is a must read for all true Indian patriots. Read it. read about the brave men who took part in this war and made victory possible. I guarantee that your heart will swell in pride and tears will escape your eyes.Lastly, I would like to congratulate Brigadier Ian Cardozo on his brilliant work in bringing these stories to light!Jai Hind!!

Very interesting book
Major General Ian Cardozo has written a good book regarding the India Pakistan war of 1971. It is not a war history of army, sir force, or navy but the book comprises interesting stories relating to war by all three services. It was the first time in history of India that Indian armed forces and Indian bureaucracy and leadership worked in unison. All three services chiefs were very competent and efficient persons resulting that India first time established itself to be regional power in Asia, instead of combined threats of America and China. Mrs Indira Gandhi provided great leadership. This was possible by Soviet union standing in good stead behind india and indian people. It was also first time that America threatened and tried to intimidate a great nation who was fighting for just and equitable cause. President Richard Nixon and secretary of state Dr Henry Kissinger have to eat the humble pie in this matter. A new nation was created after partition days. The writer has written certain chapters very good as sinking of INS Khukri, devastating of Karachi Port, Long shot at Longewala, Race for Dhaka. There is no major mistakes in book and it is in good English. There is also no facts mistakes. It was travesty that there was no military participation in Shimla Agreement and bureaucrats lost all gains earned by Indian armed forces. Mrs Indira Gandhi realised after the agreement was implemented and PM Bhutto ( Julfikar Ali) cheated her. Her secretary P N Huxer was shown the gate. Kashmir problem is as it it is. Mr Bhutto and Ajiz Ahmed ( foreign secretary of Pakistan) backout their promise to solve Kashmir problem. The price is very reasonable as ordinary reader can afford for which I thank Penguin India. Their books are generally cheaper in comparison to Oxford University press books. It is very fascinating and interesting book and I strongly recommend this for every body who is interested in history of India Pakistan war of 1971.

Absolutely Riveting!
An absolutely thrilling account of the war of 1971. Although i think it is not written in the proper sequence but still while you read it would seem that the war of 1971 is unfolding before you chapter by chapter. At the end salute to all the brave soldiers of our country who fought for our nation.
