I bought this knife for a buddy whom served in the navy and is always talking about his favorite knife. I don't know much about this peticular knife but his smile and comments made by him leads me to believe this is a solid well built and great cost for this kind of knife. That's the best endorsement any product can receive.

At 72,i am learning to tie knots. Why not? Great marlin spike. Decent sheepsfoot blade. You WILL need to use the included sheath. One end of the knife has what appears to be a flat head screw driver. It will eat your jean's pocket up.

The knife is thicker than others because of the extra pull-out accessories (bottle opener, sheepsfoot blade, shackle wrench), and I put a few finishing touches on the craftsmanship: The tip of the fid was very pointy so I filed a small blunt on the tip so I can separate rope strands without catching/pulling out fibers). While I was at it, I filed off burs on all the rivets which had sharp edges from the coining operation. The slot for torquing shackles is about 1/8", too small for most of the shackles on my 30' boat (much less an "off shore" boat). The "Flat Screwdriver blade" protruding from one end is handy, but it was ground thin and sharp (both edge and corners - like a chisel), reducing it's strength and presenting an exposed edge. So I filed the edge and corners down to function more like a screw driver blade. The sheepsfoot blade is not something I have used before but I appreciate the purpose of having a "safer" blade without a pointy end. This knife has a pointy Sheepsfoot so I filed that down too. Mine did not come with the advertised bag and has no means of attaching to a belt. The wire bail looks adequate - although the wire is a bit thin and the loop is larger than necessary. I like the textured housing. The double bevel blade arrived sharp and I hope it will hold it's sharpness. The opening and closing mechanisms are reasonable secure, noting they do not have "positive" locking/release mechanisms.

This thing wouldn't stay in one piece if you actually tried using it on a pitching boat. The Marlin Spike rattles around so much I'd be afraid to put it in my pocket for fear it would come loose and stick me. All three blades are held in place by press rivets that cannot be tightened. This one is going back tomorrow.

I received this knife as a gift a few months ago and it does what it is supposed to do. Nothing fancy, just the job intended. I recommend.

Knife is not sharp, but a needed item.
