This is a great question! I spoke with magic jack directly. They've explained that the products which have the ethernet cable design below the "magic jack" letters are the 2012 versions, and come with 1 year of service. Those without this ethernet cable or phone cable symbol will be the 2014 versions and only include 6 months of service. They also stated that the "additional features" for the 2014 version were still in beta mode, and not available. They provided me this url to see the differences in the photos. You'll need internet connection at all time to use your 2012 MagicJack. For initial set up You also need a computer. After you have it set up then you can plug it into the electric outlet with a provided adapter.

No, but it is a second phone number not listed connected to my computer.
