A good tool for reasonable tasks

The media could not be loaded. The WG505 comes with a bag. Tool is loud, wear ear protection. Tool is heavy and well built with metal blade. I did not use or need the blower so no comment. It picks up and spits out acorns. It has good suction and so that it blows the mulched leaves to back of bag hence minimum clog at fill. Worked nicely on pea-gravel, grass and some plants. I liked working with it and will continue to appreciate it. On/off switch was very very hard to manipulate - annoyance. Now for the rest of the story. First this is not badly made; it is strong but it is also powerful. I noticed there was a hole in the casing around the metal mulcher chamber. Clearly something had been sucked up into the chamber and flung to the interior chamber side and broke through. There were also about three linear cracks in the chamber side. After looking at the damage and the work to be done, I decided to cover the casing hole with strong hose and use duct tape to reinforce the slight cracks and hold the "hole repair" in place.I was able to operate it satisfactorily to fill the collection bag six times before night fall. I will consider further ways to keep it going in a more robust way.My point is that I don't feel the materials were low grad; the task it encountered was beyond plan. My advice is judge the task and realize that the task needs to be balanced with design.MY EDIT: As I said in my original review; this works well and does the job. This is four days later and I wanted to examine the "repair" that I made to evaluate how well it worked. While the duck tape had covered the hole, the force of the air produced by the tool had produced a few leaks. I made adjustments and began work. After a couple of hours, I realized there was more dust created than before and it was not sucking up as robustly as before. I examined the tool and saw two holes on the other side of the mulcher chamber causing the dust. I finished what I was doing ignoring the dust. Upon looking under the "repair" I learned that some parts of the housing were now held on only by the repairs I had made. The mulching blade appears to by in pristine shape but the enclosure is substantially compromised.I am returning the tool and requesting a replacement with the hope and expectation that the one I received was defective. I decided to read all the "1" reviews and there were about half dozen with experience such as mine but the product gets good reviews for the purpose I want. I did not change the number of stars because I really think it is a good product. If I succeed in getting a replacement, I will update this again.UPDATE OF REVIEW. I received a replacement quickly and have been using it for 4-5 days, probably 20-25 hours. Everything has gone well and I am very pleased. I am more careful to avoid acorns and have made special effort to keep the intake of the tool 1-2 inches above the ground to acorns, nuts, small rocks. The power is sufficient that the leaves "jump" up. Swinging it back and forth helps avoid leave hanging up because you get them on the "back swing". I added a video to show it solves leaves laying on plants, the suction continues even as the bag fills (this was about 2/3 full), and it is heavy but can be handled. It is loud so be prepared and finally, the on/off switch was much easier to use.

Powerful!

This is definitely the best leaf sucker that I’ve ever owned. The difference is that the impeller is all steel and not plastic. It has all the power you need to suck up everything but a bowling ball from your closet!

It Worx (no pun intended)

It arrived within 5 days, (a week early) and I proceeded to run it extensively for two straight days. I have 4 oak trees, each 35+ feet tall that generate a tremendous amount (24 bags) of leaves and twigs when leafing. I was amazed at this little machine's ability to such them in, including up to 4-inch twigs and just shred them into the collection bag; all good. Reality check, it DOES NOT equate to 16:1, you'd have to have paper to reach that ratio. My experience is about 5:1, still a significant savings from normal rake and stuff manual pick up process. I also used it to suck out all the leaves from my gutters-it worked amazingly and is way faster than doing by hand. I also use it to vacuum up the leaves from the patio which is far less messy than the blower. Finally, the large collection attachment for a full trash can, when just sucking up a pile of leaves works excellent. This is where I got an accurate estimate of the mulching ratio of 5:1. All in, for the money, I am so impressed. Reserving one star until I have it for a full year. I want to see if will last more than a couple of jobs. I bought the 2-year warranty just in case it fails. So far, it has exceeded my expectations, and I've found several other uses that apply so a multi-functional machine.

Real Review From A Real Purchaser

Okay first off I'm not compensated in any way to write reviews. I'm not given any free products. I'm just a guy who was sitting on his couch not looking forward to a huge leaf raking job that I needed to do when this infomercial came on the TV. And I thought. . . .this might make my life a bit easier. So i purchased this Trivac. I have been a mechanical engineer for 20 years so I'm mechanical inclined but not a pro tool reviewer by any means. It's an okay purchase. Not great, but okay. It does everything it's suppose to do.It came in today and I put it to work right away. Took me 2 minutes to assemble and I was ready to go. So here's what I found1. The blower works like any other leaf blower. Not stronger, just average. Check the power setting when it arrives as the blower power is adjustable. It arrives at the lowest setting. People who are claiming the blower is terrible probably did not switch it from the low power to full power. It works decent.2. The vacuum setting works a little better than I expected. But again, average, not great. It will easily pick up leaves, both dry and wet. and small twigs no problem. I had piles of leaves along the fence that had been there for weeks and were a bit damp. Picked them up no problem. Took some time, but picked them up. Takes a lot of back and forth motion to keep the leaves flowing and to keep the vacuum from clogging. IT WILL CLOG PERIODICALLY. There's no getting past this. The mulching function is non existent almost. Mostly full sized battered up leaves in the bag. Nowhere near the finely mulched look of the infomercial.3. This thing is TOUGH. I did a big no no and that was to vacuum leaves straight out of my flower bed with mulch. And I'm talking fairly good sized mulch that caused the the rotary blade to jam several times I'm talking a full on jam that caused the motor to smoke a few times. From the time it jammed to the time I was able to turn off the motor was maybe 2-3 seconds. Enough for a little smoke to come out of the vents. Each time a piece of mulch was stuck between the blade and side wall. Jammed tight and it took a screwdriver to unlodge it. It cranked back up every time no problem. I don't recommend vacuuming over mulch but it fought through decent size twigs and piece of mulch with a few jams. There's a distinct difference in the sound of a leaf jam and a propeller jam. A leaf jam simply creates a higher pitch sound, a propeller jam is a hard motor jam and loud. Don't panic. Just turn it off and clear the jam.TRICKSEveryone is saying how the leaf jam is pretty frequent and annoying that they have to disassemble the Trivac to clear the jam each time. What I found was that if i got a leaf jam, I simply switched from vacuum to blower and back to vacuum and 9 times out of 10 it cleared the jam each time. Try this first before turning it off and disassembling to clear a leaf jam. TRY THIS METHOD FOR LEAF JAMS ONLY. FOR A PROPELLER JAM TURN THE TRIVAC OFF AND UNPLUG TO CLEAR THE JAMWhile the blower is okay and not great, i found a work around to get stronger blow force. I simply removed the bag and switched to vacuum and the positive air flow coming out of the bag port was maybe 5x stronger than the blower port. So I used that method to blow my leaves into piles. Worked like a champ. Not it's intended purpose but it worked great. In closing, honestly, if you have a mulching mower and a leaf blower, you don't need this item. It's simply not as efficient as a mower and blower. It works okay and will make the chore of raking and picking up leaves and mowing debris a bit easier. But it's not something I would say is the best in it's category. But for the price, it's well worth it.

Blows!

Works well but needs another handle towards the top/ back. Very difficult to hold level to ground when blowing.
