South Chicago Packing Traditonal LARD Shortening, 42 Ounces, Specialty Baking Shortening and Cooking Fat

This is extremely good quality pasture raised lard. I didn't see anything about it being pasture raise in the ad, but according to their website it is. That's important because I cook with it to help increase my family's vitamin D intake. I normally render my own lard, or use rendered bacon fat, but having a good source for affordable high quality lard is a God send. I will most certainly be ordering this again along side their tallow. I am extremely pleased.

I've never cooked with lard or tallow before, only vegetable oil and canola oil, but wanted to experiment with lard after doing some research into seed oils. I was blown away with how easy it was to use (just melt the amount of lard you need in the microwave or on the stove, and substitute that for any oil in a baking recipe) and how tasty it made my baked goods. I will definitely be buying more and replacing oil in all my favorite baking recipes for this awesome lard. (Pro Tip! If a recipe called for "1/3 cup oil" I did a "rounded scoop" of lard [so about 1/3 of a cup, plus a spoonful or two extra] and that has produced awesome results.)

Before I use this I had used butter or oil. On my Aunts recommendation I switched to this lard . Wow what a difference in how stuff turns out. Flavor wise and texture. It turns out it is better for you health wise as long as you use it the right way.

I use this lard for pan frying, and it is an essential ingredient for my ketogenic diet. The product quality is very high and I can recommend it without hesitation.

I've been using this for every meal, great price. I'll never go back to oil.

It's a great product but expensive considering lard is a byproduct of the butchering process. Most meat processing plants just throw it out or send it off to dog food manufacturing plants. The only downsides are the price and the fact that it comes in a plastic container.

What can I say? It's a big old tub of good lard and it's not in one of those wax boxes!

Good lard, I use it mostly for frying chicken.
