Yale, reasonably enough, will not reset a lock that someone else has activated. This means that a lock that has been installed, or even tested, and returned is useless unless the previous owner thought to remove it from their account. Yale does provide a way to request that the previous owner release for you -- but there is no assurance that they will even see the request, let alone act on it. When Amazon resells returned locks they don't appear (based on a sample of one) to verify that the lock will be usable when you get it. So, if you buy a returned lock be sure to test it out within the return window.Update #1: after six months with a working lock -- battery life is no where near the 12 months that we expected. The lock is used occasionally, maybe once a week, and after about six months the lock started unlocking "at random" (HomeKit reported that the lock unlocked in the middle of the night and that it didn't relock). The reporting in HomeKit is sparse on detail, after the second occurrence, I checked in the Yale app and discovered that the reason for the unlocking was a low battery. I'm not sure what's causing the battery to run down so fast, but it's worth laying in a stock of high quality CR2 batteries.Update #2: four months later the lock wouldn't open. This time the lock did not unlock, nor was there any notifications in the app. I called Yale tech support and the only solution they had was to pull hard on the lock and break the post. So I did that & discovered that the battery was dead. I wasn't expecting that since the cabinet remained locked and the battery was replace recently. The first tech support person I talked to denied that the lock would open when the battery was low (even though the instructions say that it will - which makes sense because otherwise they is no way to change a dead battery without breaking the lock post). The second support person tells me that the unlock-when-battery-is-low function only works if you open the cabinet frequently (at least once a month). The lock started off seeming great, but the design of the battery fail safe is terrible, and not explained accurately in the instructions. I would not recommend buying this lock -- especially if you plan to use it on a cabinet that isn't opened frequently.

This the sixth device I have purchased from the August/ Yale product lineup. I couldn't be happier. The install was a bit clumsy but once I got it setup everything worked well. When you scan the QR code don't use the one with Homekit icon.The smart cabinet lock uses the same PIN as your front door lock; which is something I hope they change in a firmware update if possible. After reading a few other reviews I purchased the extended warranty.The Google Home integration is very easy to implement and works well on smart displays, speakers and Pixel watch.Note: There is approximately a 1 hour lock-out for multiple wrong attempts to open the Smart Cabinet lock with Google Home.

Agree with all the others, this is not a lock for a gun cabinet or your $100,000 in gold bars you have stashed at your house ... I used it on the liquor cabinet just to keep out people who should not be in there ... set up was NOT intuitive .. if you get the product with the bridge, you have to scan the QR code on the product BOX for the lock module (do NOT scan the QR code on the back of the lock module) .. I had to call the 24/7 tech support for help (which was fast and helpful response)... once I figure it out the set up was a breeze, but the instructions are not that clear ... I bought 2 locks and was given the tip to take the battery out of the 1st lock when I was ready to install and set up for the second lock .. once done and all batteries installed, both locks work perfectly ... once installed I sometimes have to give a gentle lift on the door when shutting and locking to make the most secure and tight connection (otherwise I'm not sure the lock is catching all of the latches on the post) ... not a problem for me, but just to mention that this is not like a metal Stanley lock with pins ... I would love to see this lock improved (esp beyond plastic), but its not bad, dose securely hold the door, and will work for my situation (can a teenager pry open the door, probably, but if you have this kind of a teenager then toss the liquor or get a deadbolt lock instead) ... but here is the most important reason I bought this .. I spent $2500 on the bar furniture many years ago and did not want to toss it just to buy another piece of furniture that had a built in lock .. so if you have this kind of a situation the Yale Cabinet lock offers a solution to save your existing furniture ... also I choose not buy the keyless locks that use a FOB card to unlock because I did not want anyone to get ahold of the FOB card .. this is all secure right through my phone ... I'm sure this is just the start for this kind of a lock, but so far Yale is the 1st to the market

Works great definitely like the added Wi-Fi feature to be able to unlock things when not at home using it as a lock for my dad's medication's.

So 2 days after installing this lock , —hint: dont waste your time trying to scan/enter QR code—which was meant to keep teen and his friends our other special needs son skillfully took a scissors and broke the plastic arm in about 30 seconds because he thought there was candy in there. So while the whole lock with your phone thing is cool, not very secure (and in our case now totally unusable). Just saying, not sure this does a whole lot more than your average child lock does.
