National Geographic books have always been a hit in our home. We have several and plan on getting more. Reminds me of encyclopedias growing up but so much better. My 8 year old walks around with his books anytime a new one arrives. Definitely for the kid who loves to read about facts.

It introduced our Son to states, rivers etc. It's intended for 10 year olds who know more about the US. Great pictures and easy to understand.

I consider myself far-left politically, but a lot of this book reads uncomfortably like a kids version of "The People's History of the United States". For such a large book, I would like to have seen more text and fewer large pictures. The history of each state feels far too brief, especially considering most of it deals with how settlers forced Native Americans off the land.
