I am displaced from my home country over near New Orleans, and the local stores here don't stock this Zatarain item, probably because it is not a complete "meal in a box". And folk who want the meal in a box are really missing out! I get a 1lb bag of red beans and a Hillshire Farms smoked Sausage, Cut the sausage into1 inch lengths, dump it all in a pot with the required water and seasonings in the box, bring it to a boil, then let it simmer for 2 or 3 hours. When it's done, put some white rice on a plate (amount YOU want, not what the meal in a box gives you) and ladle the beans and sausage over it! Yum! It's like not even cooking! Personally, I prefer my beans layered onto a layer of rice - with the meal mix, it's all mixed in. Not as good, IMHO! I am a single guy, so I get one good meal fresh cooked, then freeze 4 more for later - those meals are just as good, and even easier to heat up!

I used this seasoning to can red beans for my red beans and rice. With the box of seasonings, a little andouille sausage and 1 pound of dry red beans, I made 5 pints of red beans. I added rice when I ate them. It’s perfect!!

My secret sauce for making red beans and rice! I used to be able to find this in Walmart but apparently they don't stock it anymore. Guess that leaves me and my friend Amazon!!!
