Melissa & Doug Wooden Construction Building Set in a Box (48 pcs)

Got this to play with my grandchildren. This will help teach fine motor skills and promote imagination. They love it.

Got this for our 5yo autistic spectrum ADHD son who loves Legos and anything involving manipulation of parts of a whole or whatever. He enjoys figuring this out. It requires more than just sticking Legos together. It involves twisting and trial/error, critical mechanical thinking. I also like that it's wood, not plastic. I also appreciate that this is a "genuine" M&D brand product, you can be relatively reassured for material safety and quality. I've had no issues. I do with the wood was more "finished" or glazed to aid in cleaning but other than that it's fine and seems like it'll hold up for his younger sisters. It's also fun to watch two or more of them fiddle with all the bits, snatching the finished pieces from brother, tantrums over nonsense. But yes, if your kid loves putting stuff together or likes identifiable categories of numerical stuff then s/he will probably find some use out of this at least.

This is the small version of an activity my grandson greatly enjoyed at the Children's Museum. He loved building with the boards and nuts and bolts.I was delighted to see this home version and bought it immediately. My grandson went right to work once he saw the kit, and I know it will provide hours of play time.Quality is good, number of pieces adequate for building things. Very affordable. I recommend as a gift for young boy or girl.

Not for the very young. More for 5yrs old and up. You can build things but they need to creative. Not so easy for the little kids.

Grandstand loves it, endless hours of play

I bought this construction set for my daughter 1 year back, when she was 5 years old. Now, she is 6 and still likes to play with it. I missed writing it's review back then, but today when I was just going through my old orders, I happened to read few reviews by other buyers. I was surprised to see that people has given so much negative feedback about this set. Honestly, I think it's a pretty good construction set and helps my daughter to use her imagination to build some new structures apart from the provided ones. All the pieces go in very with well each other very and get easily screwed together. My daughter never had any problem with it.I would definitely recommend this product!

I bought this to go with the M&D Hammer and Saw Tool Bench (https://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Hammer-Tool-Bench/dp/B00NHQDY16/). The quality and fit of the nuts, bolts and boards in this set is much higher quality. That said the workbench tools and hardware are incompatible with the stuff in this set. Their wrench is too large for the bolts in this item, the bolt head slots on this set are too shallow for the screwdriver, and the threads for the nuts/bolts is smaller than the nuts and bolts in the workbench, so they cannot be jumbled together and used for one larger project. Pretty disappointing to not have a uniform standard so that all the M&D construction sets could be used together.I did make the bolt slots deeper, waxed the threads, and made a bunch of additional boards for this set, so its still useful, but I was going to buy into this M&D construction set universe and have a bunch of options for building. I don't think I'll be doing that anymore.
